I don’t just produce artwork for amazing rockabilly bands and fascinating old photos. This lovely, full colour calendar is produced every year on behalf of the gas companies who share the Bacton Gas Terminals in Norfolk. Calendars are given to all the residents of the surrounding villages as a thank you for tollerating a huge gas terminal in their back garden! This was always produced, completely in-house, by Express Printing for whom I used to work, but since the closure of Express Printing’s print department I produce the artwork, collaborating with the lovely Jane Bayley from “Partridge Associates” in Aylsham and then it is printed by Barnwell Print Limited, also in Aylsham, who produce a beautiful quality job each time and are a joy to work with. 3,000 of these calendars are printed each year and feature really lovely photos from across Norfolk by some of the county’s top photographers. I have friends and family with nothing to do with the Bacton area who ask for copies of this every year and have done for years! We must have produced this for 15 years, if not more!
2018 North Walsham Archive calendars
The 2018 North Walsham and District Community Archive calendar has been delivered to my office from the printers today and looks lovely as always. This is the third year I have had the privilege to produce the calendar which has become a well loved and integral part of the town. We had lots of support from local businesses sponsoring the production and many calendars pre-ordered. A real community project.
Calendar Time Again!!!
Once again I have produced the calendar for the North Walsham & District Community Archive. This calendar is always popular with the local community and has quickly became one of the highlights of the local community. This year the archive group decided to open the calendar up to local businesses to sponsor months which allowed the group to reduce the sale price of the calendar. The beautiful, hi resolution, photographs are drawn from the North Walsham & District Community Archive’s extensive collection of over 10,000 local photographs spanning almost 150 years! Each photo is litho printed to as high a standard as possible and presented in a 2 colour design. It is a privilege for me to be so involved with the local community and in projects which will become part of the town’s history just as the photos in this calendar are now. The sales of this calendar also raise money for the group to continue their tirelss work to safeguard North Walsham’s heritage.
Thanks to the following local businesses for sponsoring this edition and making it possible…

Norfolk Gig Guide

In 2003 (yes 13 years ago) I started building The Norfolk Gig Guide with two things in mind. Firstly it had to be no frills or faff so on arrival to the website the visitor was given a list of the most imminent events in the area. Secondly I wanted bands & venues to have their own accounts and add their own details (at absolutely no cost) so the site would virtually run itself. After all, this was only a hobby website which I stood to make no money out of so I didn’t want it to take up loads of my time once launched.
This would mean the site would always be current and of interest to visitors, quick to load and, with the huge amount of information in the site, the regular updates and density of keywords, the site would perform well in search engines. At the time, 2003, there was no Facebook and on-line applications were far and few between.
The result has been fantastic. There is always 1000+ gigs listed on the site. Hundreds of bands and venues use it. Search engine performance is great. On my travels playing in a band I regularly hear musicians and venues talking about listing their dates on this guide (and they have no idea I had anything to do with it!)
I haven’t messed with the formula much at all over 13 years. It’s still built in ‘old skool’ ASP and looks much the same as it always did. ‘If it ain’t broke….’. That said, recently I have modified the site purely because of mobile technology. More people look at websites on phones and tablets now than on PCs. When this site launched this was unheard of, I don’t think tablet computers even existed! I think a lot of people who would benefit from this site are those already out and about on an evening and wanting to check who is performing and where.
Thanks to Joseph Hood for doing a great job as admin and promoter for the site for many years now. Here’s to the next 13 years!!!
