You’re right, there is no telephone contact on my website. I’m actually quite a sociable bloke but unfortunately, being self-employed and almost always up to my neck in demanding projects on a deadline, the likelihood of me actually being available to answer a phone is virtually nill and email is by far the best way to get me attention.
I’m sure that you, like me, also receive countless cold calls and marketing calls which waste time throughout the day so, for my own sanity, I only give my phone number to existing or potential customers I’ve already had contact with. If my phone rings and it’s a phone number I don’t recognise and no message is left then there is nothing I can do but it’s 99% definite that it was a phone call I neither need or want.
In fact, in this age of accountability email also provides a record of requests and information for future reference in case of any doubt. I would also argue that anybody who has difficulty or suspicion of email really needs to question whether a website is a viable option for them or their business as email is central to the whole online model.
I’m sure I lose a job here and there not having a publically accessible phone number but I’ve weighed it up and I’m sure this amounts to less than I’d lose by constantly answering cold calls and disturbances while on critical programming work. So I’m sorry for any inconvenience and I hope you understand. If you feel this is a problem for you then I’m obviously not the web designer you’re looking for and we both know that before either of us waste any more time but thank you for looking.
